Unconstitutional Tax Increase: March 2022 City of Trinidad Council Meeting

Unconstitutional Tax Increase: March 2022 City of Trinidad,  State of California

City Council Meeting

City of Trinidad, State of California, Honorable Mayor Steve Ladwig leads March 8, 2022 City Agenda Item discussing and acting on rescinding their UNCONSTITUTIONAL tax increase for the City’s Hotel Tax (TOT).

The City of Trinidad makes businesses — under penalty of fine and threat of litigation — non voluntarily charge, collect, account for, file and pay this tax for their guests.

QUESTION:

Why didn’t the City do the right thing and also rescind their previous 8% to 10% tax increase?

We now know — since January 2022 — that tax was also UNCONSTITUTIONALLY passed by City Resolution — the same way, for the same amount, and for similarly spurious reasons.

UPDATE: March 31, 2022

Guess they needed another letter 😂

I “forced” this issue onto our City’s April Agenda by sending my “demand” letter to the City Manager, March 31, 2022. The City sent a letter to most businesses the same day, saying they should collect at 8% now.
